A little TRIVIA

I was watching a PBS Program Saturday night about the Queen of England visiting Jamestown to mark the 400th anniversary of the first British Colony in the new world. During this program, it was stated that AMERICANS have a fascination with the Queen and palace life because we have NO PALACES in the United Stated.

NO PALACES?? I would like to make a correction! Here is a little known fact . . . we in fact have ONE ROYAL PALACE on U.S. SOIL!

Do you know where it is or whose palace it was??

The ONE PALACE that is on U.S. SOIL is located in
HONOLULU, HAWAII and is called 'Iolani Palace! It was the official residence of the Hawaiian Kingdom's last two monarchs--King Kalakaua, who built the Palace in 1882, and his sister and successor, Queen Lili`uokalani and was taken over by the U.S. GOVERNMENT during their take over of HAWAII. It is currently a MUSEUM to the Hawaiian Monarchy!

There was a little bit of SHADY BUSINESS on the part of the U.S. Gov't at the time of the Monarchy's overthrow. Queen Lili'uokalani wasn't exactly treated well or fairly, and was betrayed by people she had allowed into her gov't to help to write a new constitution for the Hawaiian Kingdom . If you would like to learn MORE about the U.S. ONLY ROYAL PALACE on U.S. SOIL visit the 'Iolani Palace Website and click the history tab under Queen Imprisonment!

The U.S. gov't and President Clinton finally issued an OFFICIAL APOLOGY to the NATIVE Hawaiian people in 1993 for the treatment of the Queen. Interesting history of our little paradise islands out in the pacific ocean!

So, there is your little piece of U.S. Trivia for the day! Go amaze your friends because I bet many of them had no idea that we do have a Royal Palace in the U.S.
