THE BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!
So, the other night, my Aunts, cousin, mom, and I went to dinner in honor of my Grandma Jane's birthday. While at dinner the hotel they are staying at in Mesa for the Scrapbooking convention came up! I have one MEMORY of that hotel from HIGH SCHOOL!! And I decided to share it! I believe the conversation started like this,
"I got kicked out of that hotel once."
My mother's face dropped and one Aunt replied, "FOR WHAT?" Post conversation I can see the NOT GREAT IDEAS FLOWING THROUGH THEIR MIND OF MY SECRET REBELLIOUS HIGH SCHOOL LIFE (You know the one MOST REBELLIOUS TEENS WOULD HAVE A KICKED OUT OF A HOTEL STORY FOR). Needless to say, MY BEING KICKED OUT WAS NOT FROM ANY ROOM, it was JUST FROM THE HOTEL IN GENERAL!!! So, let me tell you the story!!
Ever heard of HOTEL TAG? Well, for a dance day date in H.S. we played the same version only it was AIRPORT TAG and the airport didn't seem to mind. IF it was ok at the airport why not at a hotel???
So, I was out one night with a group of (SHOCKINGLY) all Mountain View friend! We were the kind of group that would say make movies, or the girls would ask to borrow one of the guys cars and go hide it in the neighborhood, etc. So, this night all of us VERY GOOD KIDS, decided to SPICE LIFE UP A BIT and go play HOTEL TAG at the only BIG HOTEL IN MESA the MARRIOTT on CENTENNIAL by the CONVENTION CENTER!!
Now let me first dispel the notion of a BUNCH of High SCHOOL KIDS RUNNING THROUGH the HOTEL! NO NO! The IDEA was a few things:
1- Don't draw attention to yourself - be very normal and well behaved in the hallways
2- Don't let the IT find you (aka travel to different floors avoiding the person chosen at IT)
So, there we are! Playing hotel tag. I am playing it safe with Jenny thinking all is good! We are about to board an elevator when a friend tells us they are rounding everyone up and threatening to CALL PARENTS!! Ha ha! Jenny and I get smart and head out of the hotel!! We promptly position ourselves in the parking lot between a car and bushes creating a fence between the parking and pool areas. And we start talking, "how long do you think it will be before they are done with the rest of them?" "they won't rat us out, they will just take the blame and we will be out of here."
Suddenly from behind the bushes two security guards tap our shoulders. We are taken in to the hotel where we are told that they have some HIGH SECURITY GUEST STAYING THERE and that they were concerned for their safety. That they would appreciate it if we would leave, but would also like our parents numbers to give them a call. So, we all rattle off our phone numbers.
I (THE GOOD KID - NEVER DID A THING TO POSSIBLY CREATE ANGER WITH MY PARENTS) am SHAKING IN MY BOOTS!! They never called our parents. And we never went back! Which, still to this day, if that HIGH SECURITY GUEST HADN'T been there, I bet we would have been OKAY since they weren't even offended enough to CALL OUR PARENTS!!!
So, dinner with the MOM, AUNTs, and cousin ended and can I say I think my mom is still very disappointed in me! Oh well! I figure that that was the ONLY TROUBLE I ever got into in H.S. she ought to be pretty happy! And we were very discreet about it, not being loud and obnoxious in the hotel! But, I think the fact that 10 teenagers entered the hotel together and then split up might have teed security off! Oh well! So, my mom is disappointed!!
Fun times in High School!! Good TIMES! I have to say also that one of the friends from that night I ran into in the LINE WAITING to VOTE during PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARIES here in AZ - - we all grew up to be RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS!!! Yes, Karlea, it was our little group of friend (I don't know where you were)! Dave, Dereme, Jason, Todd, Jenny, and I were big trouble makers - ha ha! I wonder where you were that night!!!

I love it!! Wish I would have known about that when I went to school. COOl!! Do you want to go play hotel tag today? It could be alot of fun, especially now that were adults.
TAG your IT...
All I have to say is that hotel tag was definately a lot easier in Vegas. We definately would have been friends in HS if we knew eachother then, we did the exact same kinds of things! (Although one of our videos was breaking and entering at an elementary school, I stayed in teh parking lot, and we did take little drives on the golf courses but luckily never got busted) You can tell your Mom it could have been worse!
OK Janan! I very well remember stealing the car, AND the airport tag, but why don't I remember HOTEL tag? I was reading this and thinking, wow, that sounds fun, why wasn't I with you THAT night? But I guess I was!!! Haha - Maybe in the next life when my memory returns from being a mother of 3 I will recall this event! I must have been a blast to hang with!! Yah!! Love your blog!
