Ok, this really shouldn't be called Kaiya's Konnection anymore! Truthfully, it has become more and more posts about me, my thoughts, my feelings (well, really equal). Anyways . . . on past that!!
Today, Kaiya heard Arizona on the radio and proceeded to tell me, "Mom I live Ari-zoona." This followed with, "Dad live Hawai'i sometimes." Yes, I think you can tell who talks about Hawaii a LOT!! This set me on my yearning!!
Today, I am feeling homesick for Hawaii. I know what you are thinking, how can you be homesick for some place that by all "traditional standards" isn't your home. It is hard to explain! I will try in my best effort.
Have you ever been some place that made you feel like your heart has found its home? Some place that when you leave your heart begin yearning to be there? Hawaii was like that for me. My heart was at peace, content, and happy the moment I arrived. Honestly, I know it will sound cheesy, but when I was in Hawaii, my soul was at peace, I was home.
There is are many things I miss about Hawaii. Just a few of the things my heart aches for would include:
- The smell, taste, and feeling of the ocean breeze. Especially on cool nights coming in the room through the louvre windows.
- The rain, the smell of the rain. The puddles, the fresh feeling.
- The feeling of Temple beach sand between my toes.
- The sight and sound of the waves crashing, especially at night
- The moon over the ocean at night, the peace it brought.
- The love of the people! I miss walking into Church and getting a kiss on the cheek and a hug from all. I miss the smiles.
- I miss the sounds of the PCC (Polynesian Cultural Center), especially the night show being carried on the trade winds.
- POG (Passion, Orange, Guava Juice) - Wal-mart use to have it in LAS VEGAS, but no more!!
- Mangos fresh off the trees.
- Running nightly and resting to stretch outside the Temple gates.
- Plumeria lined streets, ok, not that thick! But, the sheer pleasure of plucking a plumeria from a tree and placing the flower behind your ear, priceless.
- The sound of a slack key guitar or the ukulele playing - they all sounded like love songs!
- The "no worries" attitude.
I could go on and on! I just am homesick for the place that resonated with my heart! I miss you my Hawaii!!
Laie Sunrise, aahhh!
Little Circle with flags from each country with a student at the school. The Sri Lankan Flag is in this picture. _preview.jpg)
Beautiful!! Seriously the best place to walk or run at night, I would probably be skinny if I was still there!!
Love this temple and these beautiful temple grounds!!

Now you are making me homesick too! I loved reading your blog and remembering all the wonderful times I had at BYUH. I loved all the things you mentioned too, it's been 11 years since I was there and I would love to go back and visit. Someday I'll take Stephen and JC and show them all the places I used to go and love. I so remember the night show at the PCC and I always knew when it was 9:00 pm cuz I could hear those deep drums playing at the start of the night show. Remember how freezing the library was and how we would have to take our sweat shirt with us if we were going to stay longer than 10 minutes? I think I spent more time in there than I did in my dorm room! I remember how you used to eat tons of rice, with soy sauce. I guess that's cuz that was the most edible thing in the cafeteria! I used to eat it with italian dressing and cut up pineapple. Remember the smell of the buildings? I'll never forget that! I loved my job at the cage, well, maybe not washing the smelly gym clothes, but I made such great friends there! Not to mention the cute boys I liked to watch....especially Chad Evans. Man did i have a crush on that boy! Anyways, I should write my own post about all this instead of making this super long comment! Thanks for the memories of the memories!
