Genealogy and Fall Festival

What a weekend we have had!!! It was pretty busy and hard to believe it is already SUNDAY!!

Friday, we had an activity in the ward called, "Who's Your Cousin??" They asked for contributions of genealogical displays and etc. The goal, family history work. The night before I got an e-mail stating they needed more displays, I decided I might as well do it. We figured we would go with the more exciting Chinese side of the family. My parents lent the child chair, genealogy sticks, pictures of my grandfather Y On Yee, my aunts and uncles on my dad's side, and picture of what we believe are my Great Grandparents. I also borowed the laptop to diswonderful slide show put together by Elder and Sister Moon of the pictures from all the visits to the home in Kaiping, China. Then, as I was running out the door after changing from setting up, I forgot my camera to take a picture of the display! So, no picture of my display! There was a game to try to find out if you were cousins, however, it was quite obvious that I wasn't going to tie into anyone with my paternal side. Needless to say, we enjoyed it. For a refresher, visit the China/Hong Kong tabs since there is no picture!! Here is a link to my Sister-in-law who did a post also . . . she did a GREAT JOB on trip to Fung Lok Lai!!

Kaiya got to sleep over at Grammy's house that night! We asked them to babysit, and Grammy requested a sleep over! LOVE IT!! So, Kaiya slept at Grammy's house and we didn't see her again until about 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon. She had lots of fun delivering fliers with Grammy for Proposition 102 - Yes for Marriage! Fliers to everyone in the ward/neighborhood! Start them young is the theory . . . make them responsible citizens who contribute from the early age! She LOVED it! Of course, I think she could be in charge of cleaning out the horse stalls and love it if Grammy was involved!!

We picked up Grammy, Granddad, and Kaiya to go to Schnepf Farms for their fall festival. Needless to say, it turned into a split driving situation because Grammy and Granddad didn't think they would last for the fireworks!! They stuck around for all the animal involved stuff, dinner, a train ride, and the pumpkin patch! Which, being the sillies we are left it till the end and had to find a pumpkin in the dark because they forgot to flip the switch for the lights in the patch! Oh well! We got a pretty perfect pumpkin anyway! To my surprise it wasn't the cheapest of all . . . Kaiya likes to pick the small "just her size ones." And, I came to the conclusion last year about midway through trying to convince her to get a BIG ONE, that I should enjoy the CHEAP SMALL PUMPKINS for as long as I CAN!! Last night saw the end of that!! Grammy and Granddad were kind enough to haul the pumpkin home with them so we could stay and enjoy some more fun until the fireworks!!

We had a predominantly fun time! Kaiya got to ride the ponies and made sure to tell the pony ride operator that she has a horse named "Red." I am sure they thought, "Sure kid! If you had a horse you wouldn't be paying to sit on this horse!" Ha ha! Another year or two and we can sit on Red and enjoy a real ride . . . .
Enjoy the pictures!!

One OBSERVATION that IRKED ME!!
I do have to make one comment! I found that there was some disrespect at the farm that sort of annoyed me! I know, I try not to let other peoples actions get to me too much! But, this did! At the end, we sat on this haystack to watch the fireworks and post fireworks, a bunch of boy came along and began rolling the pumpkins sat up for display and decoration purposes on the stack off the side to their breaking! It wasn't just one or two pumpkins, try like 10 - 20 pumpkins. All the while, their parents just sort of stood there! Obviously, these people have no working recollection of a farm because they would have understood that their children just ruined 10 -20 pumpkins worth about 10 - 15 dollars a piece. Now you do the math . . . there was at least $100 - $200 worth of merchandise that had been destroyed and the farmer will gain no profit for his work! IRKS ME!! Respect people!! RESPECT!! I am certain those same parents probably wouldn't let their child go into a store and ruin $100 - $200 worth of pants, shirts, video games, etc! I sit now and regret not speaking up . . . I timidly turned my back after I gave Kaiya a good, "Do you see what those boys are doing?? Well, they have ruined those pumpkins the farmer could have sold. Now, the farmer wont' be able to buy dinner to feed his family. I know you would never do anything like that, those boys should be in big trouble." Ok, there was my TWO CENTS!! DRIVE ME NUTS - - if it isn't your and you didn't PAY FOR IT, regardless TREAT IT WITH RESPECT!!!
We hope everyone is having a blast enjoying the fall season and the celebrations of a harvest!!

Your display was truly amazing... it helped all of us appreciate your heritage. I loved it.

And, I agree with you on the pumpkin thing... so rude.
