DOLPHINS and PCC - 12 - 31 - 2008

(For non-Laie fluent readers, PCC refers to the Polynesian Cultural Center . . . yes, the acronym was created by those who live in Laie and/or attend BYU-H! PCC is lots faster to say than . . . well, you know!!! So, in this post and all future post, the Polynesian Cultural Center will be referred to as PCC)

Today, we had a blast! We woke up this morning, and headed to Sea Life Park for a dolphin encounter! M1 had asked about doing it, so we checked into prices, etc! I am glad she asked about it because it has been my secret desire in life to be near a dolphin . . . in truth, I want to swim with one! But, this . . . this curbed my desire for a while! We arrived at Sea Life Park and got ready with life vest and all! Kaiya added a bathroom break just as we were suppose to get in the water with the dolphin! So, WE RAN because MOM didn't want to miss a single second of it!! We got back after the introduction to the dolphin and the briefing about him, just in time to touch him as he swam by us!! It was pretty sweet!! I enjoyed it! Then, he began to do some tricks of the trade! The experience ended with kissing the dolphin, getting a kiss from the dolphin, and having a dance with him! I really didn't care much for the kissing part! But, Kaiya said it was great! Kaiya LOVED IT!! And lets all be honest, I am glad I got to be there!! Here is a picture of Kaiya getting her kiss! I hated all the pictures of me . . . one of Kaiya will be enough!! It was fun!!! We watched the dolphin show after our encounter!

Then, we headed to the PCC!! I LOVE THE PCC!! It was exciting to run into some familiar faces!! We didn't get many villages in this day! Which was fine because . . . our personal retired tour guide would be available tomorrow to assist in having a SUPER AMBASSADOR type experience without the cost!! We hit up the Samoan village and Aotearoa (a.k.a. New Zealand), then it was time for the Laua and the night show! Another CHANGE at the PCC is they give REAL FLOWER Leis at the LUAU instead of the SHELL!! YIPPEE!! I love flower leis and was in 7th Heaven!! LOVED IT!!! The kids were so brave and everyone tried POI (no one liked it), CHICKEN LONG RICE (loved it because it tasted like CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP - noodles kind of weirded them out), and HAUPIA (no one was a fan of that - Me, I am always a FAN)! But, go girls and SIL at being open to a cultural experience!! The had front row seat for viewing the pig being brought out of the imu.


After a FABULOUS experience at the LUAU - - we headed to the Night SHOW! I love the night show and was so excited to see it! They changed the beginning and the ending! To be honest, not a fan of the new song . . . the sailing canoe impersonation is pretty cool! Talent, not as great as when we attended BYU-H! But, I enjoyed the show which is totally the same as when we worked there! LOTS of FUN! The girls were on the edge of their seat the entire time, loved the entire production! But, they would definitely say, their favorite was the Samoan Fire act! Especially, the three dancing over the fire and attempting to put it out! I have to say, I have one cultured daughter and three very cultured little nieces! I think it is great that they all enjoy attending these things and behave well!

I have one CRITIQUE of the Night Show, PCC POLICY!! I am either in denial, or when I was there you were allowed no FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY or VIDEOING of the production! There still is no FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY, but they allowed VIDEOING! They really ought to do away with it also! We sat behind a guy who had his camera up in our line of view to get a great taping of the show, but totally obstructed our view! Not to MENTION the BRIGHT SCREEN LIGHT was very ANNOYING!! I now it bother others around us too . . . it was DISTRACTING and rude! So, PCC . . . you ought to go back to NO VIDEO CAMERA too!!! Cell phone were asked to be shut off . . . flash photography was asked to not occur, could we please get rid of the video cameras!! Or at least tell then not to USE THEIR SCREEN to see what they are videoing!!! Plus, it seems like you would sell more DVDs of the night show if you didn't allow people to video it!! Help other guest enjoy the show and make money for yourself . . . BONUS!!!

How we went and off to bed! It was a great night!! Only M1 stay up to party the NEW YEAR in with my mom!! Grammy I think was a little bummed that no one else was tough enough to party till the late night!! First time ever for Kaiya to not be up partying!!!
