Fabulous Grammy and MOM!!

No, it isn't my mom's birthday nor is it Mother's Day! But, I have just had another realization of how fabulous she truly is!! I think I am playing catch up for all the years I took her for granted and didn't realize how amazing she really is! A few experiences in the last week have helped drive this fact home:

1 - I was at a friend's home this last week telling her all about our trip to Hawaii. Her oldest child, a boy, came in to get into the fridge and caught me saying something about my mom being there . . . he turned around and said,
"Sister Burr was here! Where was I?"

He was so distraught at the idea that he missed seeing my mom!! His mom and I had to explain to him she hadn't been there and he had not missed her!!

Let me clarify . . . my mom is not only a very thoughtful and LOVING MOM and GRAMMY, but she is also that way with her neices, nephews, brothers, sisters, and the youth at Church. She was this young man's primary teacher, I believe a CTR teacher. I remember her being in Idaho keeping track of each child in her class birthday . . . if she was away for their baptism, she would make certain that they would receive a package with her gift for them in it and a note about how proud she was of them!! My mom has an innate gift of making people feel SPECIAL! And indeed they are special to her!

2 - I awoke this morning to make certain a TRIPLE M cousin received a phone call this morning! A CAPTAIN ZOOM HAPPY BIRTHDAY M1 SONG phone call!! Mom realized she didn't have the CD and needed me to go get it from her house or let her know so she could order another one because M1 was not going to miss out on the CAPTAIN ZOOM SONG!!!

On that note . . . HAPPY BIRTHDAY M1! We love you and are so excited to see you and be at your baptism in 2.5 weeks!!!

Another example, they are flying home from Hawaii to drive to Idaho to go to M1's baptism!! She would not miss this for the WORLD!! Remember, this is the same lady that drove hundred of thousands of miles to be to dance recitals and competitions for her granddaughters . . . a baptism a pretty important thing . . but she and my dad have done this for dance recitals! They will go the distance to support and love their grandchildren . . . they have in the past and they continue too!!

3 - This afternoon, the friend I was telling about my trip stopped by to pick up her son, Kaiya's friend, and brought with her another friend. The other friend made a point of asking, "When do we get your mom and dad back?" I have yet to run into a friend of my parents and not have them ask, when will they be home . . . I have even had people tell me they want to quit sharing them because they missing having them around!!

My mom and dad do all they can to be contributors to their family, ward, neighborhood, community, and country! My mom just has a talent for going out of her way to help others!! Speaking of out of her way to help . . .

4 - Today, I was just decorating for Chinese New Year (January 26) and was thinking over our trip to China and my parents mission. And, I remembered a request my dad made to me while in Hawaii . . . which, made me remember an e-mail from my mom while they were serving a mission in Hong Kong. She need a friends number to hopefully find a home for a baby that would otherwise be aborted. She was working to get this baby a home. In the end, my mom helped facilitate two babies from ***China to be adopted, saved their lives. She is very much against the other option (always has been) beside adoption. Really, my mom made something that was not her worry become an URGENT priority for her . . . .

***CORRECTION: Yes, I have a correction on this - - they were TWO BABIES from TAIWAN that she saved from that unspeakable end . . . and FOUND THEM A HOME!!

How many people do you know would go out of their way to save someone they never met, now imagine what she does for those of us she knows??

5 - I called her to tell her a little something . . . before I could get off the phone she had to know how "baby" was (yes, my mom still calls Kaiya baby) and instructed me to give her a kiss. There isn't a phone call or e-mail that goes by that my mom doesn't make sure she knows how Kaiya is doing and sends me off to deliver a hug and kiss!! She wants her GRANDCHILDREN and kids (even neices and nephews) to know she thinks of them and loves them even when she is far away!!!

6 - We have a friend who teases about the LOYALTY our family (my brothers and I) have to our family! It is so true . . . one thing that will get you in hot water is the mistreatment of a family member . . . but, especially the mistreatment of our mom! It doesn't matter if you are our sibling, a grandchild, extended family, a friend, etc., you do not mess with our mom. Now, if that doesn't tell you what a special lady she is . . . . she is amazing and all her children respect her and love her so much!! A perfect example is the trouble Kaiya got in with Uncle Cary when he found out she made Grammy cry this summer! There was a very simple explanation of what would happen if she ever made Grammy cry again!

I could go on and on . . . but, all I really need to say is I LOVE MY MOM! She is amazing! One last thing!!!

I am so GLAD my mom is my mom and that she is Kaiya's Grammy!! I am just sad it took me so long to realize how amazing she is . . . but, I will make certain of it that Kaiya always appreciates the amazing lady she gets to call Grammy!

Dude. That is one lady I will NEVER mess with! You are so fortunate to have an amazing mom. I wish I could articulate my admiration and love for my own mom as well as you do.
